The Science Side of Artemisia

“The preparatory drawing of Artemisia’s Allegory of Inclination has emerged in the infrared image, and we saw a change in the positioning of the figure’s eyes,” says National Insitute of Optics head researcher Dr. Raffaella Fontana.

“As we know, some time after the artist painted it, the body of the female figure was covered with a veil. Our morphological analysis allows us to keep track of the changes made during conservation treatment.

This video documents the Artemsia UpClose project, conceived and sponsored by Calliope Arts and Christian Levett, in collaboration with Fondazione Casa Buonarroti at the Buonarroti Museum.
